A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden title for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

Medvedev, a former top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, managing just one match at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the US Open.

His unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and issues with his service game in specific - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately separating with former trainer his previous coach.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, Medvedev has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - peaking in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's maiden championship following the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from that period of that year.

The win also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I have attended a tournament with my two daughters together, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter my daughter, because the first title I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had been defeated in his previous six championship matches, featuring in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to play at the top level was finished.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an better service.

He fought back from a disadvantage in the initial set against the difficult opponent, winning 4 of the final five points to take the lead.

The pair traded break points in the second set before the challenger, striving for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a final set.

Moutet saved four early opportunities in a close deciding set before Medvedev broke to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner secured the win with a point at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to handle a volley after a lengthy match.
